1. What It Is:
Diesel D2 under GOST 305-82 is an older Soviet/Russian diesel fuel standard used mainly before the update to GOST 305-2013. It’s a middle distillate fuel used in diesel engines for vehicles, generators, and machinery. Still referenced in some export contracts, especially from Russian and CIS suppliers.
2. Key Specifications (GOST 305-82):
- Sulfur Content: Up to 0.2% to 0.5% (2,000–5,000 ppm) depending on grade
- Cetane Number: Min 45
- Density @ 20°C: ~830–860 kg/m³
- Flash Point: Min 62°C
- Viscosity @ 20°C: 3.0–6.0 mm²/s
- Ash Content: Max 0.01%
- Water & Sediment: Max 0.02%
- Pour Point: Varies by grade:
- Summer grade: up to −5°C
- Winter grade: down to −30°C
3. Grades:L (Summer)
, Z (Winter)
, A (Arctic)
These grades are chosen based on the operating climate.
4. Applications:
- Older diesel engines in trucks, tractors, buses
- Industrial diesel generators
- Agricultural and off-road equipment
- Sometimes used in marine engines (inland or coastal)
5. Trade Notes:
- Still exported from Russia, Kazakhstan, and CIS countries
- May be referred to as High Sulfur Diesel (HSD) in global markets
- Requires heating in colder environments due to higher pour point markets
- Often traded under FOB/CIF/TTO terms with SGS or equivalent inspection
6. Important Note:
Because GOST 305-82 allows higher sulfur content, it's not compliant with modern Euro 4–6 standards. Many countries have phased it out for road use
